CABBING - Beginning

Cabbing - Beginning
Description: This is an introductory class on cutting cabochons (domed opaque stones). The following general topics will be covered in the class: marking and trimming a rock slab, shaping the stone on a grinding wheel, doping the stone for ease of handling, doming the top of the stone, smoothing the stone, and polishing the stone to a high gloss. Students will also be taught the proper operation and care of a trim saw and a cabbing machine. Each student will complete a minimum of 3 stones.
Materials: Small slabs are supplied by the club. Larger slabs or special material must be supplied by the student.
