The Canaveral Mineral and Gem Society (CM&GS) Is a group of friendly people
of all ages and experience who enjoy the hobby of lapidary arts.
Wikipedia says we're
"artists or artisans who form stone, mineral, gemstones and other suitable
durable materials (amber, shell, jet, pearl, copal, coral, horn and bone, glass
and other
synthetics) into decorative items such as engraved gems, cameos or cabochons,
and faceted designs".
We formally organized in 1964 as a registered Florida not-profit-corporation
approved
by
the
Internal
Revenue
Service
as a
tax exempt
organization under Internal Revenue Code section of Florida 501 (c) (7)
Our Purpose
- Preserve, support, and promotion of the hobby of Mineralogy and its various
forms of allied activities and earth sciences.
- Dedicate ourselves to the furtherance of the hobby through the exchange of
knowledge, experience, and other helpful information among ourselves and other
like organizations.
- To further the education of members and the general public of the hobby by programming talks, discussions, motion pictures, field trips, and the staging of shows and exhibitions.
- To maintain an active affiliation with the Southeast Federation of Mineralogical Societies and to participate in Federation activities to the fullest extent possible.
GOALS & OBJECTIVES
- To promote the spirit of cooperation and fellowship among the membership.
- To increase our knowledge of rocks and minerals and to explore the mystery and wonder of the earth.
- To actively encourage members to attend educational classes, workshops, lectures, and demonstrations.
- To stimulate interest in the earth sciences within the community by providing scholarships to worthy students at all educational levels.
- To provide the necessary equipment and resources to enable members to develop their interests.
- To enjoy our hobby and Have Fun!
WHAT WE DO
- We conduct workshops to enable our members to learn skills to make beautiful creations from all the wonderful gems and minerals found in this great earth. Workshops cover all areas pertaining to this hobby, from stone cutting and faceting, to silversmithing and wire wrapping.
- We donate money for scholarships in the Earth Sciences
- We sponsor Crystal Kids Youth Group
- We meet once each month for lectures, exhibits, instructions and various programs to enhance our knowledge and expertise
- We participate in state and regional competitions to display and highlight examples of the work of our members
- We have lots of fun enjoying our common interests

The Canaveral Mineral and Gem Society is a member of
the Southeast Federation of Mineralogical Societies (SFMS)
SFMS holds workshops at Wild Acres and William Holland at various times. Check
out the schedules at www.sfmsworkshops.com. These
are opened to our members and offer wonderful opportunities for great in-depth
study of areas you might be interested in!

Meetings and Dues
Meetings are the First Wednesday of each month (except August) at the Henegar
Center, 625 E. New Haven Ave., Melbourne, Florida. Meetings start at 7:00 p.m.
Dues are $15.00. Junior Member dues are $2.00 when accompanying an adult member.
